Hey guys!
So recently my idrive on my 2004 545i started to act up and constantly reset. after a few days it just stays on the BMW logo and does not even go to the menu page. Could this be a battery issue? Ive tried resetting it a couple times, but it didnt do anything but go back to the BMW logo again.
thanks

Thanks for the reply
I did try taking out the navi DVD but nothing has changed. Would I need to leave it out for a few days. If not are there other possibilities?

the idrive unit is know to fail due to a poor cooling design. Apparently there are people that offer a repair service, failing that you'll have to buy a new idrive unit. You may want to look into getting a CIC for a little more money (double) but tonnes more functionality

I've had my iDrive reset with an old DVD copy inserted. There are certainly more reasons it could reset.
Seeing as you have a 2004, as sanjsanj suggests, it could be the cooling fan has stopped working. It may also be that it has failed electronically.

yeah, the fan has three modes, you can activate them in DIS. The issue is the USA gets super hot, and if iDrives are failing in the UK due to overheating (poor airflow design) then you bet they'll fail in the US.

Yeah I do hear the fan spinning from time to time. Are there any places you guys would recommend out in the So CAL area? preferably LA or OC that could take a look at this problem and fix it for a low cost?
thanks
