I'm running 22.5 50/50 city/hwy. I'm at 24.1 right now but I went to St Cloud tonight, about 60miles away.

Wow, I drive like a grandma in the city and I average 21mpg and get 32mpg on the highway but I go about 65mph on the highway, not 80.

In my Ford lightning I got 11mpg in the city and 12 on the highway...crazy

Just put about 500 miles on my 545i this weekend going to a wedding and back. Had a convoy of cars with us on the way down and lets just say they don't take it easy on there cars. So we pretty much cruised around 75 to 85MPH. Got to the hotel and the car said 28.6 for avg. MPG. So far I've found the computer system to be pretty accurate. With in 1 mpg or so. Now this was on and off the gas quite bit as traffic really won't allow us to set the cruise for much more then a few miles at a clip. So I wasn't really being smooth with the gas.

So far I've always got about 28 to 30MPG in mine on the HWY. Few times in the 27's. City driving about 15-16MPG but my city driving is basically under 35MPH most of the time and many stop and go lights. I know if I'm doing city driving in a major city I get more like 17MPG to 19MPG.

The trick to good gas mileage on any car is filling up when the car is at 1/2 a tank. Fuel injectors don't work as hard and sediment from additives don't cause faster burning of fuel from 1/2 to empty. If you don't believe me, try it! Notice how from F to 1/2 you usually get 200 or so miles and then only 85 more from 1/2 to E? Try filling up every 1/2 tank and see. =)

So true. very interesting. def gonna try it.

Very interesting... and looking at it, the bottom 1/2 definately seems to go quicker than the top 1/2 of the tank.

I don't know but I think I'm geteting something like down around 15 mpg... total city driving as I only have about 4.5 miles to work... need a longer commute to enjoy the ride!

Perhaps an empirical study is required on this subject...

Driving 10 miles each way through streets I would define as between city and highway (longer distances between lights with speed limits of 45-55) I average around 20 MPG. Driving 65-70 on the freeways I can get over 25. I am going to try the half-tank trick today, I'm at that point now.

I don' t think that the fuel indicator is volumetric. The fuel tank is probably not a perfect rectangular box. I'm showing 21.7 mpg with about 65% hwy. Think this car is due for an oil change, maybe even new plugs. It's funny, the number to the right of the decimal (tenths) only change in odd increments.

i also reset my trip computer when I replaced my wheels. there has been a slight improvement by ditching those heavy SSDT snow tires that were on the car, about .2 to .4 mpg.

I don't drive on the highway much - around 16 in the city.
