545i gas

hi, my friend recently got a brand new 04 545i for his 17th birthday but he is using the cheapest gas because gas prices are high in so cal right now. would this affect the performance of his car?

Yes it will!

So let me get this straight, rich boy's parents had no problem dishingout $70k for the car but would nickle and dime the cheap gas we have here in Stateside??

tell him or his parents to pay up for the gas! They/he didn't think he was getting a toyota corolla that was going to get 40 mpg did they?

Welcome to the forum, assalbert. At 17, accepting less performance could be a good thing for your friend.

thanks for the nice welcomes guys i usually dont see alot of that in other forums. yea, his car cost a lil over 68gs are there any easy things he can do to it to enhance performance? he was thinking about the smg gearbox but the salesman dude said its bad or something like that. i remember driving my church friends m3 w/ smg and it was really easy cuz of the paddle shifters but didnt drive too well in the automatic mode because of the comp shifting gears for you.

Yes there is a relatively inexpensive way to enhance performance, use premium gas! The 545 retards ignition timing when using less octane than the engine requires to prevent engine damage. Retarding the timing also decreases performance.

Hence he is actually getting worse gas mileage. heck I would put 100 octane in my 545 if I could. If I inadvertenly start off in 2nd, it still knocks.
