Hello all. I know this has been a topic of great interest amongst fellow 545 owners.
I have a 6-speed 545i and I just switched from my winter tires (Bridgestone Blizzak run flats on cheapo ASA wheels) to my summer tires (Michelin PS2 on stock wheels).
What I've noticed - and which I find quite astonishing - is that the engine vibration described by many folks on this board (and which I've personally experienced) only happens with my summer tires. When I was running the Blizzaks, I never noticed this problem or at least it was much less pronounced, to the point of not bothering me.
However, now that I have the PS2's back on, the engine vibration is very noticeable.
My point is - could the tires have something to do with this. My observations indicate that yes, it does. I don't know why. I'm hoping there is someone with some auto engineering background who might be able to shed some light onto this mystery.
Has anyone else experienced this or noticed a difference in engine vibration on the 545 with different sets of wheels/tires?

Well waht kind of vibrations are you talking about? when moving? or at idle?
If you're saying moving... it might not be engine vibrations... it might be tire vibrations.

Yes, I'm saying at full stop.
I know that sounds crazy, but it is happening on my car at least.
What I can I say? It's a BMW after all - the only cars I've ever owned that have wacko problems which mechanics say are "normal."
The only thing I can think of is maybe something to do with the resonance of the engine and how some part(s) of the car vibrate. The PS2 tires are soft and pliable, while the Blizzaks are hard as rocks.
Like I said, I know it sounds crazy but this is my experience.

Meaning the softer tires are absorbing the engine vibrations? If thats the case then your engine mount isnt good. thats suppose to absorb the engine vibrations.
