Well, a convertible anyways, probably automatic. I was surprised I gained about 1/2 a car length on him at highway speeds. I won't get into the details, but nice clear stretch of road, redlined in 3rd and pulled a little in 4th before shutting down. Nice guy, thumbs up all around.

I'm sure having the new wheels and tires helped (56 lbs of unsprung weight less than OEM), and I think the M3 convertibles are a fair amount heavier than the coupe. Still, I was suprised I more than hung in there with an E46 M3. This car is a beast at hwy speeds!

Nice Kill
I believe both cars wigh in the 3700 lb category and M3 has about 10 more ponies

But wheels and tires does make a difference and an automaitic M3....you get the upper hand

I went to race two times with M3 on the road.
In the first one, highway, we were side by side and in the up hills i would get on him a little. Down hill he would advance a little. Speedo marking between 220 km/h and 250 km/h.
Second time it was in a regular road and he wasn't runnig away at all in the middle of the traffic, 3rd gear, 4th gear, and sometimes 5th gear after 50 kms he went to the gas station.... lucky me, and i put a big smile and drove more 500 kms....

the driver of a fiver has nothing to prove!

give them speed - you have style and comfort

(but, if you keep wanking to race, well, no one will ever add class to that list)

Along with speed the e46 has plenty of style and comfort.

And nothing wrong with having a little fun with the car. Your not a true enthusiast if you don't flog the car once in awhile especially against a M3.

Remember the M3 is not available as an Automatic. Even the SMG is a Manual box - with a lot of electronics - , and it is not slow to change gear - especially in S6
