My Ride: 2008 550I,manufactured 2-27-08,delivered 4-2-08.Platinum bronze,natural brown interior,light poplar trim,cold weather package,heated rear seats,HD radio
I had my 545I in for service and was given a 535XI for a loaner.First let me say that the improvements in the interior and minor outside changes are for the better.I especially like the new step.Although it was,t the SAT it still shifts much quicker and firmer than the step in my 545I.I also noted it shifted at my command below the redline which was a sore point for me in the old step. The acceleration was very good, but I know it is not faster than my 545I.Especially off the line.I noticed that even when I torque braked it to the max(about 2000 rpm) it still would not spin the tires with DTC/DTS off.The all wheel drive has everything to do with this, but the accelertion to about 20 mph was definitley slower than my 545I.After 20 mph it goes very well but not any faster than my 545I.I also tried acceleration from 40 and 60 mph. This is what surprised me the most, I expected with the turbo,s this range would provide explosive acceleration. It was very good but definitely not as fast as my 545I.I know the extra weight and driveline losses will affect the XI,s performance, but I expected more at the start.I believe my 545I would gain at least 2 car lengths at the start and not lose any advantage to about 80 mph. After 80 mph I believe my 545I would slowly walk away.I have a GT2 timer with ton,s of data on my 545I but I forgot and left it in the trunk when I dropped it off for service.I know I could not have matched my 545I 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.
Sorry to get long winded but I was considering a 535 for my next purchase.I now know that I will be ordering a 550I in the spring. There is nothing like a NA v8 for instantaneous power thoughout the rev range.

Good to know. I will most likely go to the 550 next, although with all these chip tuning companies coming out with remaps for the 335/535 engine, it makes you wonder. They're claiming more HP and Torque than the V8's. But I agree, nothing beats a V8. My SUV is a V8 and it's a totally different beast.

Nice input grogan545,
The x-models take the edge of it, do to the 4x4. (A much lighter one will come for the F10).
A better comparison would be 535i vs. 545i.
I still have a feeling, that there is something that will beat the CU's.

So let me get this straight, the 535 isn't as fast as your 545? I wasn't sure if you were clear about that in your post.

No no you got it wrong... the 535XiA isnt as fast as the 545iA
But Ya I think the Xi takes ALOT away from the car as far as acceleration wise... the 535 will be MUCH MUCH Closer stock.

I also had a 535Xi loaner.
Not sure I would want to be the first to chip the car, it runs VERY hot.
A short spirited drive and the engine compartment felt like a pizza oven.
BMW is sure pushing the twin turbo, but I would give it some time before I bought one.

Hi grogan545,
Been a while since we've heard from you. Good to know you're still doing performance testing. I am too, but in a different brand.
