I think with a little practice I could break 13...

My son wants to go again later in the year so I might tag along again. All his friends are great and didn't seem to mind me being around.
I ran a 14.0 at 97 or 98 last summer in 90 degree heat at New England Dragway, my 545 is a Manual. I think the car has high 13s in it with cooler weather in the fall. I have been racing up there for 15 years or so, I take everything I buy down the track at least once. My 2006 Diesel Chevy 4x4 Truck ran a 15.0 all stock with 1500 miles on it.

Its fun, it just takes some practice and understanding how it works. Your ET is all about getting off the 1st 60 feet.

If you think drag racing is fun, you should try an Open Track driving day.

I was lined up against a last generation Z28 with a 5.7 liter. My inexperience showed, A LOT

The Z28 red lighted and I froze for a second. Reaction time .997, very bad. Then I just floored it and focused on keeping the car straight. I ran a 14.4 and 99.97 MPH. Missed breaking 100 MPH by .07

It was fun and I got a lot of compliments on my car which felt pretty good considering the Vettes, Vipers, Shelby Cobra Mustangs even a black Nissan GTR that were there. A lot of nice and very fast machines.

A few low points, an older but very clean 911 blew his motor doing a pre run burn out and a guy in a red Shelby GT500 lost control at the beginning of his run and crashed hard into the barrier. He was fish tailing from the start and instead of shutting it down he tried to straighten it out while still hard on the gas. Huge mistake as he really messed his car up.
Reaction time does not affect your results, unless you planned on beating that Camaro. Otherwise your 60 time is not that good and it seems that you ran with TC on. I had slightly better time 14.3 with my 2002 540 Sport auto. 60 time was 2.1.

Never took neither my 545 nor 550 to a track. E60 feels to big and inappropriate for drag racing.

HA no...

He read lighted so combine that with my poor reaction time and he left a full second ahead of me. And he ran a 13.297 at 110.20.

Not sure if he had any mods under the hood but I know those late model Z28's are fast. My neighbors have two of them, an automatic vert and a 6 speed "light weight" model, They have slightly detuned Vette motors from the factory (LT1 ???) and have mountains of torque. It's basically GM's best motor, excluding the new ZR1.

Great time! I have only been able to get 14.6. My launch is not good at all. If I could link up good I think I would definately be in the 13's. I'm pretty sure I will be going up again after the NHMS track day.

That's a stretch for a stock LT1, which was the Z28 motor from 93-97. The 98-02 Z28's got the LS1, but you still needed a few mods to get low 13's with it.

These motors get incredible mileage considering how much power they have.

The Z sounded pretty agressive so he at least had an exhaust, probably more under the hood. The way everyone was lining up I didn't know who I was running against until I was almost in the box so I really didn't get chance to look him over. Based on what he ran he should have been wearing a helmet which would have tipped me off I wasn't going to win...

Drag racing is very addictive, no matter what you drive! Every car ive owned has been down the track atleast once. I took my 545i to the track when i first bought it about 6 weeks ago or so. Best run was a 14.0 @ 102. CDV hurt my et a lot, atleast another .2-.3 tenths left on the board when i get that replaced.

Based on the times I was seeing, and what it felt like to pass the finish line at just over a 100mph before I backed off, anything in the 13's is fast to me. A guy on a bike ran a low 9... That's balls...
