545i 1/4 mile time

My son and his friends went to New England Dragway tonight and asked me to bring the BMW to see what she would do. I have been a car guy for 30 years and never run a 1/4 mile so I agreed to go along.
I was lined up against a last generation Z28 with a 5.7 liter. My inexperience showed, A LOT
The Z28 red lighted and I froze for a second. Reaction time .997, very bad. Then I just floored it and focused on keeping the car straight. I ran a 14.4 and 99.97 MPH. Missed breaking 100 MPH by .07
It was fun and I got a lot of compliments on my car which felt pretty good considering the Vettes, Vipers, Shelby Cobra Mustangs even a black Nissan GTR that were there. A lot of nice and very fast machines.
A few low points, an older but very clean 911 blew his motor doing a pre run burn out and a guy in a red Shelby GT500 lost control at the beginning of his run and crashed hard into the barrier. He was fish tailing from the start and instead of shutting it down he tried to straighten it out while still hard on the gas. Huge mistake as he really messed his car up.

I even forgot to put it in "sport" so I think the car started in 2nd gear
I think with a little practice I could break 13...
My son wants to go again later in the year so I might tag along again. All his friends are great and didn't seem to mind me being around.
