545 vs 530 fuel consumption
#21
I drove my 545 (Steptronic) 600 km on the highway yesterday. I drove with extreme caution, not to burn any excessive fuel. My speed was about 85 km/hour. No stops, no redlights. Just extremely smooth driving to check how (low) gas consumption I could get.
I got 7.4 liters/100 km. The OBC and actual consumption mesured at the gas station pump was exactly the same. This is better than what is stated in the manual (manual says 7.7 liters/100 km).
The outside temperature was about 0 degres celsius. No wind. Air pressure around 760 mm Hg. I had Michelin 225/50/17 X-ICE winter Tires. Pressure 2,8 kg/cm2.

Over the first 13,600 miles, I've averaged 26.5 US MPG in my 525i, 6-speed manual. My lowest mileage for any given tank was 21.5 (in and around Paris, France + en-route to Calais, France). My highest mileage was 31.8 on a trip from Austin, TX to Tulsa, OK (all highway). More recently, my mileage has fallen off due to 19" wheels w/stickier Bridgestone RE050A rubber.

These cars are meant to be driven hard...so if you want to ruin your day you can worry about the fuel consumption.? I got 15.5 mpg on my last tankful of uh "spirited" driving...and I loved every mile of it.

At 65 mph in 6th gear in the manual, just cruising on cruise control, I average 31 mpg. At 75 on cruise, more like 27. Above that speed, less, of course. I agree outside long highway cruises, the car begs you to get slightly worse mileage!
