I have noticed that my 545 has a low vibration at rest. Turning on or off the air conditioning makes no effect.

When this vibration happens, the RPM needle moves up and down slightly repeatedly.

I have software version 16.2.

Is this something that is "normal" with a valvetronic, and should I take the care in?

Thanks,

Ken

I had this problem too. Coincidentally, our rides were manufactured around the same date. Mine was Sep 2004.

I believe there was some BMW instr about some valve lever that needed to be changed. You can find it somewhere in this forum. There was also some instr about adjusting the valve clearance not too long ago.

My dealer in SIN didn't change the levers for me claiming that it was an instruction for NA only; what a lame excuse. However, their claim that the vehicle would be laid off for a long period (approx 4 weeks) got me thinking again. Furthermore, such an operation could be classified as a top overhaul which no owner of a new car would want.

They however, did the valve adjustments for me. From what I understand from my service adviser, it was done thru the computer. The idling is now smooth, but I find that the needle still jumps a couple hundred rpm. Funny.

Do you also experience jerky reversing? Very dangerous especially if you're reversing into a lot which is right in front of a wall. It happened to me on quite a few occasions previously but since the adjustment, it has not shown up.

Do you all also see the RPM needle also oscillate?

My car is a lease, and seeing that fixing it may take 4 weeks, that would be a real pain in the butt.

The valve clearance adjustments take just under a day.

Check out the TSBs that some members have attached. They tell a story of faulty oem parts for those manufactured, I believe, from Aug to Nov 2004. Just too bad, isn't it? We're caught between the devil and the deep blue sea. Their procurement dept should have been much more careful.

Mine was also built 9/04 and am experiencing the same vibration and rpm fluctuation problem.

The dealer said that it was normal though, I am waiting to see if more peopole report the problem, maybe they'll admit and find a fix.

BMWs occasionally do this, i dont think its a problem, and at the most it can probably be corrected for by raising the idle level in the OBD system.. i wouldnt open up the engine for something so minor
