I might be a minority in this poll but I have SMG and I have experienced it. But this usually only happens when the car changes from D to M by itself. ie. Automode to Manual Mode.

We'll see... its in for 16.2 right now.

I had this happen once before I upgraded to 16.2. If it happens again I'm going to get medieval on BMW's ass. :bashwall:

I have only had it happen once, but it was AFTER I had 16.2 installed. You KNOW when you have had it happen.

Wow. I know this is not a statistically well targeted poll, but I will admit to being a bit shocked that we're looking at about 40% with over 25 votes.

I am truly worried and am considering cancelling my 545 order to wait this problem out and then reorder later this year or next.

I wouldn't do that just because of this problem. For me it has been pretty infrequent and I trust BMW will resolve it if they haven't already. It's hardly what I would consider a showstopper. The positive attributes of this car far, far outweigh the few negatives.

gwf545, thanks for some reassuring words. I've seen a couple of posters who seem very concerned to the point that is has sounded like a showstopper. I've still vervous and will be monitoring any news/posts the next few days before I actually go in to sign the papers on the 545 ED I've got cooking.

I too have the honor of this experience 3 times now. All during software 15 something. I am currently at 16.2 waiting for 17 to solve some problems they claim will be the end all.

I totally disagree. The 3 times that my car has slammed it has been very violent and dangerous -- if it happens in stop and go traffic or with a bicycler/pedestrian in front of the car it will cause serious consequences.

I absolutely love the 545 and 99% of the time it is the best driving car I've owned. The other 1%, the slamming, is something I can't live with. Not only is it scary for the driver, it is totally unnerving for passengers. If the feeling of being rear-ended at 35 mph seems minor to you, then more power to you. Otherwise, I'd make sure the problem has been addressed before buying one.

I had an E60 530i for a year and a half before recently buying the 545, and never experienced a problem with the 530.

Apparently it is worse for you than for me. It's more like a <3MPH bump in the butt at worst. 35 MPH would probably put you in the hospital! I also think that you can avoid it by only creeping in manual mode . The three times it's happened to me I was modulating the gas a bit while creeping in traffic. I think if I tried hard enough, I could probably reproduce it, so I try not to do that.

Maybe this a good time to pitch the 6sp-manual to you all. I never had this problem

On a serious note, this would scared me away from getting an automatic until I heard it was resolved.

This is absurd. 43% (and growing) have had this problem and it is a dangerous problem? It seems like BMW should be communicating to its owners about how to get this fixed. Anyone remember the old mid-80's Audi 5000 that 60minutes featured for the problems with the transimission engaging while in park?
