the best voted tyre in this forum was goodyear eagle F1 as they are smoother quiet and in genral a nicer ride. I think the best thing about runflat tyre's are incase you have a blow out doing eighty plus. The only think that will happen is that you will get a warning message telling you that you have got a puncture.

I looked for those Goodyear's but they aren't available on 245/45/17 in Portugal.

Took the OEM run flats out today with 43.000 kms.

Put Bridgestone Potenza RE 050 NON RUNFLATS. Ride is fine but a little vibration.

I just reinstalled my summer wheels/tires on my 2005 545i (with sport package), after running with BBS RK wheels and winter snow tires for all but several days after purchase last year in November. Having read so much negative sentiment about the Dunlop runflats, I was expecting the worst - a much harsher ride and more noise. But the runflats are not that bad. They were not noticeably harsher riding than my winter setup, and, of course, the handling on dry pavement is far superior. I only have several hundred miles on these tires, but tire noise is negligible (maybe it's drowned out by my new B & B exhaust! ). I know a non-runflat summer performance tire may handle even better (and is lighter), but don't forget that the stock 545i suspension was designed in coordination with runflat tires, so I think you get decent performance.

With this car, you really have to find a good road force balancing shop. That's really the only way to get the tires smooth enough for the 5 series suspesnsion.

I've got the GSD3s, and one ended up being replaced due to being out of round. Took 3 shops to get to someone who knew what they were doing.

I'm surprised that we're having so much trouble with these Goodyears - they're usually exceptional tires, and are, once they're set up right. I wonder if it isn't the 275s that Goodyear's having trouble with - the set on my old 540 (245s and 255s) and the fronts on the E60 (245s) were all fine. It's the 275s on the back that were the problem.

I agree that not all shops are created equal. It took the shop across the street from my office three tries with my S03 Pole Positions before I gave up and took the car to my dealer. They got it right the first try.

I have the Goodyears and they are the best tires I've ever owned. There should be no problem at all balancing them. The 545 without runflats is much smoother, but since the sidewalls are much softer, the turn-in is not quite as crisp. That's what I found with my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires on the OEM rims. You might consider aftermarket 19" wheels with the Goodyear tires. Worth every penny believe me!

How many miles do you have on your F1's? I've heard that the road noise is terrible once you get >10k miles or so.

I've heard of this problem from at least 2 folks I know - one with a Camero SS convertible, and the other with a late model Mercedes SL500.
