545 manual pops out of 1st gear

Yep jumping out of gear isn't good. It IS possible not to engage a gear fully, but BMW gearboxes are very 'positive' and not prone to this.

If your can is jumping out of gear then I think you have a gearbox fault.

I have never experienced this problem on a BMW. However, I once had the exact problem on a brand new Acura Legend some years ago - it required a new transmission (replaced when the car was one week old). I'd push hard to determine the real cause before your car goes out of warranty.
