Well, my break in period is pretty much over, so I took my 545 out for some spirited driving yesterday down some empty back roads. The car is amazing! It is fast and powerful, and handles like a car half its size. I forget that I am really driving a 5 seater luxury car.

At times it feels almost too powerful, more than what I need here in Canada (we need our own version of the Autobahn). It's easy to get the wheels spinnining with the V8.

At first I was sad that the 550 was announced, but now I do not care. I have more than enough power as is, I probably could not tell the difference of the extra horsepower in my daily driving experience.

The only thing that could make this car perfect, is if they fixed the delay when I-drive boots up (I have NAV). I am sure this will be a software update in the future.

We post a lot of the problems we have had with our car on this site. I would like to say I have not had any problems, and I love my car!

A toast to all the BMW owners out there, and to our cars, which bring us great pleasure. Cheers

I'm at 1,100 miles now, and have been a good boy during the break in period, so I can't wait to stretch her legs...

Folks:

Please do me a favor and define "break in" .....is there a certain speed you're trying not to exceed...I pick up my new car in a few weeks from Orange County and was looking forward to at least hitting 80 MPH on the drive back down to San Diego. Thanks

Manual says not to exceed 100 mph (160 kmh) or 4500 rmp during break-in period - 1200 miles (2000 km). I think the 4500 rmp is the more important of the 2 and suspect you can get at pretty good whoop from driving a 545 up to 4500 rmp - and you should take the engine right up to there at times to break it in properly rather than always be driving around 2000.

Cool

Hey there!

Thanks for sharing your experience here! I couldnt agree with you more also. I too recently completed my breakin period with my 545i. I've never been more pleased and content with the ownership experience. It's simply more car than I'll ever realistically put to use in real practical terms. The other day I hit over 100 so effortlessly, with 5 adult passengers in tow.

We were carrying a casual conversation (with Logic 7 blarring away no less) until I saw the heads-up display show "101" in what seems like only seconds. The overall experience was sublime and all inspiring to say the least. So very smooth, quiet, effortless and refined. I kept wondering to myself if I was dreaming here.

Glad we're all enjoying the finer things in life here! GO BMW! The upcoming 550 should be absolutely fabulous too. However, the 545i again has definitely more than filled my expectations and needs for years to come. BEST REGARDS ALWAYS

IMO you can start to be a bad boy from now onwards! A difference of 100 miles doesn't matter much though..
