Is there a technical reason why the all wheel drive e60's don't have active steering as an option? I noticed no paddle shifters as well. Are there any plans to add these to the xi's?

After reading all the active steering fault problems and the fun in the ice and snow, I've decided not consider active steering. Only experience I have with it is in a 2007 X5. It's a nice feature but appears to be one of those additional technical features that doesn't have all the bugs worked out.

+1, Cool feature, but in the end, it's up to the individual owner as to whether it's worth the aggravation if it breaks. I was asking about the technical details at the dealership service area last week. They just had to replace a major component of the system for another customer for $2k+. Makes rack and pinion steering looks pretty attractive again.

Considering I like to keep my cars for 6+ years, I can't imagine what the cost of fixing it would be after the warranty has expired. Definitely makes me want to get the extended warranty and maintenance packages to push things up to 6 years / 100,000 miles. And right before 6 years sell sell sell!

And no Dynamic Drive option too.

I am by no means an engineer, but I would think with all of the extra machinery and electonics needed for all-wheel drive there is not enough room under the hood for the stuff necessary for the sport package. In other words, you can have one or the other not both.

I am not an espert but another serious consideration could be that some "features" are technically in conflict with other solutions required for 4x4. (Dynamic Drive is a clear example).
