The past week or so I've been feeling like my car is lacking the power it once had. I've recently replaced my exhaust. Deleted the resonators, 2 and 1/2" mandrel pipes to the Magnaflow muffler. Its a really clean A+ job, but I'm starting to wonder if it reduced the power. Could this be? I thought I would gain hp from this mod as I have on all previous cars I've owned (gt stang, wrx sti). It definately dosn't feel like my 0-60 is in the 5.4s range like it should, and when I punch it on the highway it dosn't surprise me like it used to. Is there an easy way to find out if the engine is running up to par without doing an engine analysis? I've only had the car 4 months, so in the back of my mind I'm thinking it could just be me and my car is running fine, but I'd like to make sure. Any ideas?

Rocky, wish I knew more about what happens when you screw with an exhaust. I know you can actually lose back-pressure with different or too big of a pipe, but I'll let the experts chime in....with useful comments, hopefully, unlike the ones above.

Are all the maintenance items up to par? Typically with a free-flow exhaust system such as what you installed, one should see gains from it. You want less backpressure; that is what will increase exhaust gas scavenging and thus, power. I don't know what size exhaust piping was utilized on your particular vehicle from BMW, but if the 2.5" diameter piping you currently have is smaller than what was originally on there, that will probably explain your seeming loss of power. Also something to keep in mind is that obd based engine control computers are constantly "learning" about the engine. It may just need some time to adjust to the proper parameters for your current setup. Also, is the muffler you installed a louvered core or perforated core? A louvered core will add more backpressure even if it's a straight-through design. Perforated core is what you want.

This is the down side of no-cosmetic modding, now if there is something wrong they (the dealer) will blame it on the mod, even if it's say........the fuel pump is giong bad.
