Default 535xi -> F-150 ?

It's a wild title I know.. but it's something I am giving a lot of thought.

I am curious who else here owns an F-150 and your thoughts between the two having owned or currently owning both. I am giving some thoughts to one and would likely replace my E60 with it once it's out of warranty in a few months. Drastically different but have a bit of a need for an SUV/truck now.

Don't have one, but I hear that EcoBoost is pretty nice, if a bit ugly sounding...

I actually was debating between the Chevy Tahoe Hybrid and the 535XI back when I got it. I was commuting into DC every day from Virginia and liked both vehicles. Back then you could get the "Clean Fuel" license plates to use the HOV/carpool lanes. However, the Tahoe Hybrid wasn't clean enough to qualify, so the add-on perk that would tip me over the scales to getting it went away and the E60 won out. I had an Impala before that. No luxury there.. hah!

The EcoBoost name is pretty lame but it seems people actively tune it so there's always that option. I test drove a Tahoe 3 weeks ago and I think I actually like the F150 more. My neighbor has a new X5 and my wife's sister has an X5 diesel. I've driven the X5 .. it's kind of like driving my car but sitting slightly higher up. Not against it but not in love with it. Might make that my wife's next car.

I drove an F-150 quad cab for about a month while my E60 was in the shop. Ride was very comfortable, plenty of room, V8 is more than capable.

Only downside is the MPG (V-8 drinks gas with TWO straws) and it's a PITA to maneuver in small spaces....typical of any full-size truck.

Recommend you look into the Turbo V-6. All said it's a solid truck but my number one choice would be a Ram 1500.

The problem with the Ram trucks is that so many seem to be driven by cocks...

I currently own a 2007 530i and a 2008 F150 super crew lariat. I love both. I drive less expensive cars so I can have both. I always buy slightly used cars, so having two vehicles allows me to leave one in the shop for a while if needed. Luckily haven't had issues. I'm a big fan of always having a car and a truck. Yes the truck is a gas hog, a major PITA to park, but still love driving it. Plus I don't want to put my bikes, surfboards, dirt, 8 ft. trees, or strollers in my BMW. Oh, and you can't hose out the back of the BMW. If you buy a F150, I strongly suggest the super crew and lariat pkg. I just drove a 2014 f150 super crew for a few days( non-EcoEco boost ). It was good, but I like the dash on my 2008 better. The back seat is enormous!

This is my third Ford truck out of five trucks. Reliability is perfect. Never had an issue with any. Sold my last 2003 f150 with 160k, only because I wanted a new one with leather.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I bought a F150 supercrew Lariat 4x4 with the 3.5 ecoboost. Ton of power and I averaged 21.5mpg tuned in Durango CO. I've got a cobb AP3 and DCI in my 2008 535xi and I can tell you that I'd have a REAL hard time pulling away from my old 6000lb truck (it was tuned). The fit and finish is okay on the trucks but you're just not going to get the interior quality of a $70K bimmer. The NAV system was nice and easy and the heated/cooled seats were a blessing in hot/cold weather. As stated above, the rear seat area is HUGE in the supercrew trucks. I'd buy another in a second since I won't buy a NA vehicle if a force inducted one is available.

I ended up picking up a new 2014 F150 Limited 4x4. I love it. In some ways the interior is not quite as nice as the bimmer.. and in other it blows it away The leather seats are great and the driver's seat is 10x more comfortable than my leather seat + lumbar support on the 5. I might tune it eventually but going to research some more first. People are claiming 0-60 in the high 4s with a simple tune, CAI, and drop in filter with the ecoboost engine. Not sure I believe it but even low to mid fives would be pretty bad ass. That gets you to where the Cobb AP Stage 1 has us with no other real bolt-ons.
