The 550 was out of range of my wallet so I settled on the 535i. And I love it. But how does the 535 compare with the 545? Is it as fast?

The 535i is fast. It's the same engine as the 335i but a few pound heavier, I think. A few months back some Socal folks had a friendly encounter with a e90 335i. The 335i did fairly well against the 545i and 550i.

I have driven a 335i on loan when my 545i was getting some work done. Both were steptronic auto and I would have to say that the 335i is definitely faster.

Hi Juventus!

545i is a little faster, if you compare stock cars .
545i could remain aspirated till 400 HP, if you are a purist .

The point is that 545i has a V8, with consequent driving pleasure .
So similar performance but different engines!

545 is definitely the obvious winner in obvious areas.

A buddy just got a 535 a couple weeks ago in Vegas.. came up to SLC for the 4th. I drove it for about a half hour on the streets of SLC. Got to experience both acceleration from light to light as well as freeway cruising. The 535 is definitely a bit more pleasurable as far as smoothness of pull and tranny go (for obvious reasons).
But the 545 off the bottom (where acceleration from ground0 counts for me) offers the bigger grin in my opinion.
I WAS very jealous still.... because of the refinements to the interior and that sport tranny. Damn that tranny was nice. And the comfort access...

Anyway, just my .02 that i thought I'd throw-in since i just barely had the chance to drive a 535 and have a 545 myself.

Cheers.

P.S. On a sidenote -- why is it that I had NEVER seen a 545 or 550 rollin around the streets of Salt Lake with 166 rims until i finally got mine on this week...
...AND NOW THERE'S A GUY WHO WORKS AT THE AUTO-IMPORT (pre-owned) dealership who lives on my street and been driving one home everyday.
Gives you a nice sick feeling when you're feeling a little bit bad-ass and drive down your street (5 doors down) and there's another 545 with the 166 rims just sitting there in the driveway like it's no big thing. LOL
Also parked (far away) down from a guy at my gym who had them the EXACT day that i got mine on.
For HEAVEN SAKES!!! AAAAAAAAHH!!!

I think the 2 cars should be pretty equal. Many ppl say the 335/535 doesn't "feel" that fast because the torque curve remains so flat, so unless you do a side by side race you won't really be able to tell...

When you are in the auto shift mode, the 535i is sneaky fast.

You can be doing 30 mph and hit the accelerator. The car does not throw you into the back seat, like the 550i does, but you look at the speedometer and you're doing 90 mph in a flash.

If you are in manual shift mode, you get a better sense of how fast the car is, as it will throw you in to the back seat when you hit it.

I agree as I tested both before I settled for the 545i...
