There are 4 pre-programmed shift patterns with the Steptronic transmission:
In D mode there is Economy and Extreme Economy. In DS mode there is Sport and Extreme Sport.
Adaptation to the driving type is reset each time the car is at a standstill ... there is no need to reset the 'training' of your transmission by disconnecting the battery or holding down the gas pedal.
Kicking the accelerator pedal down faster jumps you into the more aggressive shifting maps (Economy for D or Extreme Sport in DS). If you are gentle with the pedal, you will shift in the most economical mode ... which is why you get 3 quick shifts before hitting 40 MPH.
The attached explains all ...

I know in that manual it seems to say everything resets itself after a stop but from personal experience and many others that is just not true. Plus this is from 03-not sure which tranny is in the cars now. The resetting the tranny via pedal holding for 25 seconds definetly works or did work to get my tranny running smoothly-so whether this is resetting something else I dont know. Anyway didnt work for this fellow so is besides the point.
To me it sounds exactly what DS and D are supposed to do. but only the driver knows if it doesnt feel right

Holding the pedal trick did seem to work -- it just didn't stay good long enough that I'm not sure if it had really worked any more. I did that trick at 1150 miles (I couldn't wait until the break in period was over). At 1500 miles, it's bad enough that I'm asking for help here. Perhaps I need to do that every time I fill up... I'll definitely try that again.
BTW, I searched the forum, here is the 2006 updated manual
