Maybe slightly, but not much. But I've had a BMW head tech look at it and he said this is not the symptom of any impending problems and that direct injection engines sound like this when there is ethanol present in the fuel; he told me to keep using Shell, although he mentioned that not even all Shell stations are carrying the same quality of gas. Anyway, so far, I've had no issues.
The reason I ask is that my car just came back from the BMW dealership with a engine "missing/skipping" issue and they said they tested a sample of my gas and it showed 15% Ethanol....and NO fault codes. The car has had exclusively Chevron 93 octane since new. ALSO...I never had this problem until AFTER my "engine malfunction - reduced performance" fault occured...which was "fixed" by upgrading the DME to the latest software. So I don't know whether: 1 - "limping" to the shop after that fault has screwed something up, 2 - the latest software is more "sensitive" to the Ethanol and is casuing this "misfiring", or 3 - I have a gas station that has a bad batch (too much Ethanol) of gasoline.

Since no fault codes show up, BMW says to try a new tank of gas from a different station, and report back. I guess I'll try Shell 93 octane. Anybody got any tips on who's gas would be best to use?

BTW my issue this: when car is at idle, at least once every 45 to 90 seconds, the engine will "skip" or "misfire". You can feel it if your inside, and you can hear it if your standing outside next to the car.

High Pressure Fuel Pump.

I know some people been to the dealer 3-4 times before the issue was ever fixed. And still, might come back. It is a known problem, but some dealers play dumb and half-ass the fix to get you to come back again - every time they do this fix, they make a crap-load of basically free money, so obviously, if you want it really fixed, you'll have to push. Hard.

Mine tested 15% Ethanol as well when I was using Mobile, haven't tested Shell yet; not sure if BMW is covering their behinds just in case, or most gas stations that claim 10% ethanol are lying.

No problems with mine since the Shell 93 octane only switch.

Before I had been using BP, Costco, Chevron... and had 3 pumps go on me in 4 months.

The big fun will be in the winter , when in my case most HPFP fail.

It is still purring like a kitten ( with wast gate rattle...) and knock on wood short starts...

Since I started this.... quick update, the fuel pump (I assume that is what it is, I don't have an official word yet) finally went.
Have been using Shell V-Power exclusively.
I have been planning on putting an order in for ED on F10 535i as soon as it becomes available ( BMW told us it's July). I have read about N55, but I am not able to figure out if the architecture around fuel delivery or other related components have been changed. Neither am I sure that F10 550 is the answer?
