Hi All,

We've had a 2006 535D from new, and until the last year couldn't have been happier with the car. However the last 12 months have seen the following oil leaks occur, and have now totalled over 30 days with the car stuck in the garage..

Sump gasket
Head garket
Rear Main Seal
New exhaust manifold

Surely this can't be normal on a modern vehicle?

I've not been able to find much material related to oil leaks on these items, and quite frankly at this time we are extremely worried about keeping the vehicle any longer.

My 535D is a similar age and like you, for the first five years (for the first owner) was virtually faultless (I've seen the warranty history). The first 12 months in my ownership however were not so great with a constant saga of minor defects (no oil leaks though) so I'm glad I bought it as a used approved vehicle and everything was covered under warranty.

What sort of mileage has your car done? It certainly seems very early for things like head gaskets and crank seals to fail

I have a late 2004 535d with 130k miles. Had some minor issues with turbo hoses perishing and parking sensors failing but no oil leaks or gasket seal failures.

Hope you have reached the end of your problems.

When the problems with oil leaks started we had only 28k on the clock, and 9 months later when they finally seem to have resolved them it had only completed 33k. Fingers crossed we are now up to 37k and no further signs of leaks..

To be honest I think there was only one leak, on the exhaust manifold which they changed last. However this has cost close to 2k to fix, so we're not impressed with the ability to diagnose issues with this dealer, though they did replace the manifold at thier own expense in the end.

Martin.

I'm not sure I follow how you can have an oil leak on the exhaust manifold? Glad to hear it seems sorted though
