Ok, so I'm on my honeymoon in Europe for 2 weeks. Just happened to be passing the Nurburgring on the 25th May (never been there before) so we popped in for a look, and a quick bite to eat. Thought I'd chance my luck, and asked if my wife would let me take the car out on track. Couldn't believe it when she said yes!!!

Only went round for one lap, but couldn't stop grinning from beginning to end. The wife was screaming ("are the tyres supposed to be squealing like that???"). The track was very quiet, I was lucky. Only 1 thing passed me (bike) although he didn't seem to be going as fast as I expected, and the only real competition of the day was a german e36 M3 who eventually saw the light and let me past

Too excited at getting permission to go out to remember to time the lap, but there were 2 major slowdowns on the track anyway - the Formula 1 GP was on that weekend coming so the point where the tracks join was slowed right down (unless it's always like that?) and the 2nd point was narrowed down no overtaking while they repaired the crash barrier.

1 thing I noticed whilst spectating is some of the bad manners - I noticed quite a few drivers not moving over to the right for clearly faster vehicles behind. A transit van(!) nearly wiped out a bike!!!

Anyway I'll be back later this year to work to time the lap with the chipped 535d. Plan to setup my bullet cam as well - small enough to go unnoticed?

Yes, it's a great place to visit.

I bet the diesel surprised a few petrolheads too.

Did you get round in less than 10mins? Clarkson just beat the 10 min in a Jag 2.7d s type. Remember the humiliation he suffered at the hands of that German chick?

Have been twice on the track with mine, unfortunately not at the Ring. Some day when I'm back from China.
