Also check is there any error codes relating to a Diesel Particulate Filter. If the DPF gets clogged, one symptom is the one that you're having.

Is this easy to get to? Is it visible from my photos above? Im more of a computer geek then mechanic

When I get home, I will check the arm on the waste gate valve, but unless its loose, I wont really know what i'll be looking at.

No, its not easy to visually inspect these elements. You need to open EGR valve to see how dirty it is. Its not that difficult job but still requires some mechanical know-how. Even I am more into computers but given the prohibitive and often unreliable cost of repair from dealership (and even local indy) I did that all myself.

Here's my thread about cleaning the intake manifold. It includes the cleaning of the EGR valve. It's for 530d but it's the same with a 535d.
Please note that I removed the whole intake manifold, but you may be able to remove the EGR valve without removing the intake manifold.

No, egr is not in the picture you gave above. Its on the other side of engine. One where the black charge pipe connects to the intake (spring side)

I took a look at this last night, managed to get everything off except the two bolts underneath the EGR which were extremly difficult to get to.
I might just bite the bullet and take to a dealer

Take your time no hurry, its easier done if you take the fan cowl out.

IMO, I won't go to the dealer. Go to local independent dealership which specializes in BMW particularly bi-turbo engines like 335d and 535d. You and your wallet will regret going to main dealership. They know nothing and first this they will do is to replace everything at your expense, I think first they will replace your turbo(s) to start with. You will be cornered then and if you decide not to go ahead still you will end-up paying their diagnosis charges which can easily be in £200+.

This is my experience, you have warned, take you own decision.

I dont really have a choice im afraid

Its now booked in for today and will be collected.

I know my local dealer doesnt have their own mechanical department themselves, it is outsourced to another local garage, so hopefully it wont be too steep.

Once its sorted, i'll post the issues / costs here later today (hopefully).
