Hi Guys,
wondering if anyone might have any advice.
My 2006 E60 535D has suddenly lost all power at the low end revs, I can put my foot to the floor and it really doesnt even move.
When it eventually gets up to 3+k revs, the second turbo kicks in (im guessing) and it gives the normal power back.

The only thing I can add, is that prior to filling it up yesterday, I let the fuel get down really low (to 3 miles left to drive) and there is only £20 ($30) worth of fuel in there now.
*edit* Have just filled the car up now. Reading online, alot of people are indicating the cam shaft sensor, but wouldnt that affect the high end revs/turbo as well?

Is it likely to be releated to the fuel or could it be more serious, i.e a blown turbo? There was no bangs, no smells, no smoke so im hoping its no serious.

Theres no error codes or engine warning lights, nothing on the computer screen and I dont know how to read any fault codes that might exist.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the small turbo is not being engaged, had a similar problem no power till after 3K rev and then off it went...

I would advise checking your vacuum pipes for leaks first as they often go brittle..

Hope you get it sorted...

About 90% it's the vacuum hoses. They go brittle then one breaks. They control most of the turbo activation.

Ive just whipped the cover off and managed to find what I think are 3 vaccum hoses? One of which is slightly red.
None of them appear to be perished, I've traced them around as far as possible.

I might take a couple of photos just to ensure im looking at the right thing...

The vacuum hoses will fail, they start to go after about 3 years on the 535d. If that isn't your immediate problem then there are two pressure converters that are likely candidates followed by a stuck actuator.

If there hoses are not perished, is there any easy for a non mechanical person to diagnose the issues?

Ive attached a few photos just to ensure im looking at the correct pipes.
Looking at them they dont appear perished or worn, can anyone else offer an insight from the photos?

You are looking at the right hoses and they don't look too bad.

If they are actually all OK then you're probably looking at a defective pressure converter or a stuck actuator. Not hugely technical to fix, but you do need to understand what's going on and a lot of garages won't.

Just had the car engine codes read and its came up with the following errors:

4262
4252
4212
4272
4232
4242
(the above relates to the glow plugs)

4A66 (power management)
4501 (EGR Control)
4530 (Air Pressure)

The guy looking at the car (a local mechanic) isn?t sure whether to replace the EGR valve or not as their could be something else underlying.

The Glow Plugs is a strange one as they?ve been reset and come straight back on again.

Is anyone ?in the know? able to offer an explaination, and wether or not a replacement of the EGR valve is likely to solve the problems?

Please read thru these:

http://www.bimmerforums.co.uk/forum/...tuator-t74247/

and this (my DIY if your charge line is leaking):

http://www.bavarian-board.co.uk/foru...TID=47681&PN=1

Charge line leaking is less likely, its more like to be hose, pressure converter, stuck actuator or the turbo itself in the end.

Read my posts on the first link and how I freed my actuator, which I believe fixed my issue.
