Today (after being stuck in a bit of snow) my 535d LCI has lost most power. It struggles in D and I have to use manual to get anywhere. My redline is now around 3750 rpm.

Any ideas (BM can't have a good look at it for 2/3 weeks)! Also weirdly enough there are no warning lights/i drive warnings.

Cheers

Bert

I've got virtually the same problem.

If you turn your ignition off then restart I bet your car will be OK. Your car has detected a parameter out of limits and activated "limp mode". This is cleared on ignition off.

In my case I'm narrowing down the problem to the turbo actuators / vacuum pipes. I've had the fault codes read and my code was:

"428B Boost Control, different charge pressure, too high"

I think when I floored it the car went to full revs and at that point it opens the turbo wastegate. Either the vacuum hose to the wastegate has split or the wastegate stuck closed. I still need to verify the diagnosis - I'm waiting for the hose to arrive.....

I forgot to add that the turbo vacuum hoses are rubber and wind their way round the two turbos and the exhaust manifold so little wonder they perish. Mine are in a very sorry state (and therefore I assume the cause of my problem).

Thanks,

I'll have a look at the vacuum hoses. It is the first time it's been <freezing here so that may affect it also.

I left it stood for 3 hrs and still came back to the same problem so ignition didn't clear it, so I might disconnect/reconnect the battery too.

Careful disconnecting the battery it can cause problems with Sat Nav, windows, sunroof, active steering. I found unlocking the car and leaving it at least 16 mins before disconnecting the battery worked well.

Of course your "limp mode" might be due to a different fault - ideally you need to get the codes read somewhere.

Same problem for me last Friday, no power feels like turbo gone and max revs at 3750. Car is Aug 2007 with 30k miles on the clock. Is this an age thing with the hoses perishing. Car went in to dealer today and they think itis the turbo and it will need to be replaced. Of course it is not in stock. I will inform them of this issue with the hoses to see if thats the problem.

I think it's age with the hoses. They're rubber and situated all around the turbos and exhaust manifold. It's nice and hot there. The hoses just go hard and brittle then fail.

Depending on which hose goes you'll get different symptoms, mine was overboosting because the wastegate hose failed. That flagged an error (and limp mode) because the intake manifold pressure got too high.

Mine is now repaired and I will collect it later today. They said it was the actuator that needed to be replaced. I still suspect the hoses myself
