I have a 535D 2005 145K Km and have had 2 intermittent complete loss of power events, terminating now in no low end acceleration. I got a link from another web site to look at the small vaccum hoses under the engine cover.

ALL the pipes are frayed badly, one being broken. The rubber had gone hard. I am getting all the hoses changed and will give feedback.

I would guess that given the wear on the engine hoses that this must be a potential problem on other cars with this miliage. I have had the car from new and it has has all the proper "BMW" service history.

HPFP aka High Pressure Fuel Pump.

KNOWN ISSUE. Trust me, I've heard it from so many members here with the 535.

After changing hoses and trying the car, practically no acceleration at all, the car ground to a stop!. The main problem was a blocked particle filter which cost 2k to fix.
It is an expensive process!!, but I am gradually discovering the solution to problems when you enter the 140K kM Plus mileage arena!
