Shell are introducing Shell Diesel 'Extra', but there are few garages that have it at present due to production limitations.

The claim is better cleaning and hence performance and MPG..................the good bit is it is the same price as thier current regular diesel, when they can roll it out, BP Ulitimate is dead !, certainly as an increased price option anyway.

( I think you will find that 'BP Ultimate claim better mpg / performace on the basis of reduced carbon build up and cleaning abilities rather than as a 'high performance' fuel per se.)

You have been able to get Shell Diesel Extra round here for quite a while now. I have run my humble 520d on both and can honestly say that it runs much smoother on BP Ultimate Diesel although gives better MPG on the Shell Diesel Extra.

its a diesel ... give it the cheapest fuel you have... ultimate (our equivalent of 100octane) is for those amgs and ///Ms only
This comment is ultimate bull!

These ultra modern diesels BMW provide need the most clean diesel one can get!

Up here in the North it is also really important that the diesel is "winter upgraded"
when it gets cold (under -15 C).

So you guys should go for the best quality they can provide you with.

Have you had any diesel fuel quality tests overthere made by some reliable source?

The biggest difference is adding some Millers, not so much in the 535d to be fair, but in my Audi's with the PD engines it really made a difference.
