I meant that after a certain amount of power, traction comes into play. Even at the end of race whether it's 0-60 or 1/4 mile if you have a better launch the other car first needs to catch up before it can pass, but yes the actual traction part is only when your are coming out of the hole

Hmm, so the All-seasons on my xi aren't giving me the best traction when I floor it in clear roads. Maybe some PS/2's.....

You made my point exactly! BMW rates the Xi .01 sec faster to 60mph than the i version. Even with the penalty of extra weight its the added traction of the All Wheel Drive Xi that makes it quicker.

It seems almost like common sense. If a baby that can't walk crawls on its stomach using only it's legs, it probably won't be fast as a baby using its arms and legs. Your baby may also be retarded.

I can't use the baby analogy to show drivetrain loss, but from my understanding, the xi will hit 0-60 faster, but maybe around 80 or so, the effects of drivetrain loss may be more evident than in the i model and it may not be as fast as its RWD counterpart.

But my point in that post was dealing with the tires. I've done my fair share of testing my acceleration, but I'm doing it on the all seasons that came with the car. Say I go for the Michellin PS/2s, would that give me a 0-60 better than the average time or did BMW put up its numbers using those performance tires...and possibly 100 octane fuel? From what I've heard, BMW tends to underrate not only their 0-60 numbers, but their engine numbers as well.

All,

Thanks for the responses, I've decided that I'm going to go with the 550. The 550 I'm looking at has all the extras I want (M-Tech, 172s, etc.) I wasn't planning on modding the vehicle, therefore, the 550 I'm going with is ready to go out the door. Again, thanks!

Congrats! We'll wait for the pics

I will try to find my secret decoder ring for your first paragraph and then get back to you. But its safe to say that if you buy tires with better performance, meaning grip, you're 0-60 times will be faster.

Well, a quick look at Tire Rack Reviews doesn't show any good reviews for performance tires. Blizzak's, however, are being heralded as the best thing ever. But I'm not looking for snow tires.

PS2 turns out it's PA2s for us.
