Hi. I have a 11/2004 535 d twin turbo. The small turbo has lost its pressure. The dealer first thought it was the "air pressure control" that was broken. This is supposed to be a common problem on other diesel engines. After the first diagnostic test it seems the problem is more serious.

I dont think the turbo is blown, since I can hear the turbo when listen carefully. Hopefully this is only minor adjustement or problem, but anyone have experience on similar problems?

Problem started after normal driving to work, with everything workin as normal. On my return trip the turbo was "gone". No hard driving, sounds or warning signals.

Was the engine loosing oil at all? Could be an oil seal which has failed inside the turbo or a failed bearing which means the turbo can still spin.

Thanks. But I did read this, and didnt think it was similar to my situation, since I have no turbo pressure at all from 0 - 2800/2900 rpm. Only when the big turbo takes over, I have power. I actually have to shift manually when driving to get it up to speed sometimes.

OK, I have not heard anything like that before. I think only way is to take it
to BMW and get a complete check. Your warranty is most propably expired (from 2004) but BMW
might still get some refund of the repair if it is serious damage....Sorry could not help...

The smaller turbo was replaced on my car after 40k miles. I was trying to accelerate from stand still and I heard loud hissing sound, and the smaller turbo did not work any more. No warning messages.

The diagnostic report the dealer gave me said something about problems with a valve, but after investigating further, they had to replace the smaller turbo.
