I was reading on another forum that there have been some overheating problems with the 335.

Is this true and since the 535 has the same engine this might be a potential problem; espcially here in South East Arkansas where it can reach 100F

 

Not many real problems there.

The first few months of US 335i with auto gearboxes didnt have the oil cooler and had a smaller temperature range displayed on the instrument cluster.
This caused some people to think the car was running too hit, because the temperature guage was showing well right of the centre mark.

The cars wernt overheating, because the temps were still within the normal operating range of the 335i ( up to 303F is normal range before computer cuts power)


A few that took the cars without the coolers onto the track overheated after a while on the track.

The manual cars with the oil cooolers didnt have the problem.


the newer USA cars now seem to have the oil cooler on the auto cars with sport pack
And the March onward cars have a new temperature range on the instrument cluster so the nedle isnt so far to the right to scare people.


Im shure they have learnt from this and the 535i should all have the oil cooler

 

Opening an older thread here, but a woman with a 335 coupe, automatic trans, pitted next to me at driving school today. In her first session she came in early saying the car had overheated and went into a limp mode. I told her I had read there might be an issue on earlier automatic cars. She said she would take it easier next time out. I didn't ever ask if she had more problems, but it don't think it was just the gauge in this case since the computer dropped her power down to protect the car.

BTW, I watched her drive the next time she went out and she was pushing as hard as anyone in her group --- and she was probably in her early 50's! If this was taking it easy I would have like to see her drive hard.
