We had over two feet of heavy wet snow fall over Southern NJ through Saturday night. I shoveled a few paths to my cars that are parked in the driveway. I hire a commercial plowing service because I simply have no desire to shovel 150 feet of driveway 30' wide. When the plow arrived this afternoon the operator suggested it'd be better if I could get my car out of the way so he could push the snow to the end of the driveway. I had cleaned the car off this morning and the sun helped melt a lot of the snow away ... but I still had about 100" of snow more than two feet deep to get to the street.

And the city had managed to plow some of the snow off the road but added about another 10 inches of snow to the pile at the end of my driveway. But though it was heavy it wasn't crusted over with ice or frozen snow.

Soooooo I warmed up the 530xi for a few minutes ... backed up and slowly began to ease my way to the street!

I could see the surprised look on the faces of the plow operators as I eased my way down the driveway, over the crest of snow at the end, and into the street. No slipping, no wheel spin ... NO DRAMA!

Mighty impressed about my 530xi's ability to handle this very unusual [for Southern NJ] snowfall!

This was the scene early Saturday morning - and it snowed heavily for another 10 hours ... We got about 28" without the drifts caused by 30 mph winds!

xi FTW!!!!

xi's have a few limitations with heavy modders

but when you need AWD, you cannot put a price on it IMO

as long as I live here, i will own AWD or 4x4 vehicles

Thanks for sharing

My Ride: 2009 E61 525 xDAT with plenty good stuff (NAV, HUD etc)
Default

I can just confirm. Just had our 525 xDAT for a few wekks, before that we owned a Subaru and a Volvo XC70. Both of those were quite good on snow and ice, but the BMW is just amazing. A major swedish magazine published recently a comparison test of 8 different 4x4 systems, some were completely junc like those fitted to Korean cars. Guess who won? Bimmer crushed even the Range Rover, Audi Quattro and Mercedes. But you need of course good winter tyres to get the full out of it. Hakka is very good.
