I recently purchased a 6 sp 2006 530xi CPO, and after 4 days I got the iDrive alert that the engine is overheating (while normal city driving and AC off). I took it to the dealer/service and they replaced the water pump and thermostat. Two days after, same iDrive alert so I brought it in again - said it was an air bubble in coolant so they bled it, etc. Two days later (now) I got the same message, all under similar driving conditions. Any ideas? It is in the BMW service now, any suggestions that I should bring up to the SA? Thanks in advance.

I bought it at around 25K miles and that was the first thing they replaced in addition to the thermostat. Any suggestions?

so i got an update from the SA, that it might be the sensor that has gone bad. they want to attach monitors onto the car and do an over-night test. does this sound appropriate? or does anybody have any experience of this?

Sounds right... It could be a temperature or fan sensor that's failed.

update from SA: they tested the car overnight and the car never overheated and the sensor 'moved' as it should have. They started a PUMA case (whatever that is). they will keep it over the weekend and wait for a response from BMW. they still think its the sensor.

as a first time bmw owner this is really frustrating!!!

is this related to getting a message saying 'temperature is too high' and then the audio cuts out?

yes that is the message.. the audio does cut out but it is not associated with any static, perhaps it cuts out due to the message (like getting a phone call). any thoughts???
