Hi,

I am already pleased with the 4WD capabilities as mentioned in another thread but today we got a true blizzard. Traffic became chaos. However, I disabled the DTC and DSC competely, pulled the handle to DS mode...jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezus what a ride. I had some 80-90 mph with a constant slight right skid. The traction is just unbelievable. Ok, I had a 4WD before but not one with some 255 hp.

Just had to share that...

i'm with you - xi awesome in inclement weather

No matter how much people say the rwd with snows is great I do not think it an compare with the awd - the xi is a tank in the snow.

Sounds great. Though two comments from a previous quattoe 4wd-er

(a) had more (slight) skids in 4wd than 2wd - as you get less warning of poor grip than in 2wd - need to watch the temp guage

(b) depending upon the differentials used (don't know the BMW version) if really push it need to have your wits about you - with VAG / quattro can initially get understeer, then diff slams power to back so can get oversteer. DSC will fix nowadays, but if off watch out

? can't stop or go round corners any quicker than a 2wd - hence I tended to blast 0-30mph under full power in snow for fun, then back off

Enjoy. I was expecting to be relegated to using the wife's Honda Jazz today for a long trip (in place of rwd 530d auto) but forecast snow not yet here so may stick with BM

4WD is great when its snowy and slippery.

There's only one thing to remember:

The car will nor stop any faster than a RWD!
