I have a 2004 530i with 55,000 miles. Does anyone know when and how the timing belt should be replaced on this car? Nothing in the manual.

I am pretty sure the reason for that is our cars use a timing CHAIN not a belt, therefore there is no need to replace normally. At some point you may need an adjustment, but no replacement belt is needed.

Yes it uses a timing chain and has a tensioner to keep it tight, no adjustment is necessary.
