One is Black with 19"s (Petrol) One is Silver Grey (Diesel) with 18"s it'll come down to wheels I would prefer the high reving I have had some high performance cars so I like just crusing about in the E60 I don't see it as a ballistic missle unless I was getting an M5, 535d or 550i

Didn't realise the MY2006 Diesel was a new block etc...

Either way both are awesome cars, the E60 is certainly a nice car to own and drive, infact if you read the journalism on them it's as if they have driven a different car. If you take I-Drive it's so much better than you'd expect based on the press it get's and when I get into cars splattered with buttons I really appreciate it.

Looks likw out of your choices the petrol has everything going for it - 172's, newer engine etc.

Quick question - do diesels cost more to service ? I know they require more frequent servicing in some other makes but is that the case with BMW as well ?

I could live with 290PS But 295PS would be nice

Surely, they could tweak to hit the 'magic' 300PS?

I think they're about the same now. The 'Service Inclusive' deal does not differentiate between Petrol and Diesel - only the amount of cylinders... The fully synthetic oil allows 15k-20k miles just like a petrol.

What I find interesting is the 5yr/60k fully inclusive deal I purchased at ?750 is now ?1,375!!! (I think I bagged a bargain!)

i would rate 530d(231bhp)>530i(258bhp)>530d(218bhp)

the new 3litre diesel is much much better
I agree!

So in the end. Get the diesel. I made my mind!!!
Warning though (u'll have to live with the, "good", diesel sound). Don't get me wrong it's extraordinary for a diesel as all bmw diesels are, but in the end it will still sound like a diesel. A much more refined one, but no where near the petrol.
Torque(real life performance) vs sound! What's it gonna be?
