Hey guys so I'm in the market for a 5 series E60. My budget would allow for a 2004 or 2005 - 530i with about 30k miles or a 545i with about 60k miles. I'm leaning towards the 530i with less miles - thoughts?

I have to agree with you, the 530i seems like the better choice, but ONLY because of the miles! In either case, you MUST have a warranty on the car, these cars are VERY expensive to repair! Good luck with your choice and enjoy the forums!!

I agree with flyingpuck, the 545 would be nice, but on your budget, go with the car with the lesser milage.

Also, welcome to the forums

The mileage is an important issue but you might want to review this thread:

haha - I actually have read that thread already and it has only helped in my indecisiveness, especially because deep down I'm a power junkie. Are you saying you'd go for the 545i? Doing more pricing it looks like the mileage comparison could be more like 25k vs. 49k.

It all depends on what you are looking for in a car. Many drivers like the extra power of the V8. As you saw in that thread there were a few 530i owners that wished they would have gotten the 545i but none of the 545i owners said they regretted not getting the 530i. Give both cars a good test drive before you make your decision.
Good luck.

A few months ago, I purchased a CPO '05 530i with approximately 30k miles. The car was a factory ordered vehicle with a lot of options, but no Navigation . I also looked at a few 545i, but like you, what I found were higher mileage vehicles and went for the 530i.

My primary decision was because this car came optioned with the comfort seats, premium package, PDC, L7 stereo, sport package, heated front and rear seats and a factory spoiler...and the car was painted sapphire black with the mocha-tan interior and black zebra wood trim - very nice color combo.

The 545s I looked at were mostly silver, gray or white, mileage around 60k but I wanted a specific color combo (dark blue or black with the mocha-tan interior). There was one fully loaded black / black 545i with both HUD and SMG and approx. 50k miles but it was gone within the day of it being advertised.

In any case, its bit better on gas mileage - a weekend to Reno from the Bay Area was one fully topped off tank of gas, I think had I purchased the v8, it would've been a half tank more.

Good luck
