Make sure they replace the "crankcase breather filter", that is maybe what blew your Turbo in the first place.............I do highlight MAYBE as well.

Thanks Phantom Mark.

Someone else suggested the breather cover may have caused this from the last service. I will ensure that this is done though thanks. I am the happiest man alive at the moment. I really cant believe it. At the very most I thought they may pay for half the parts! I had almost lost all my faith in BMW but that has put it back up again.

Just so I dont knacker up the new turbo..... Do I need to bed it in for a while? Its first journey will be a 170 mile motorway trip!!

That's great news buddy!! Happy for you. As Mark said, make sure they do replace the crankcase breather filter!!

With regards to the new turbo, don't floor it for a good few hundred miles. You do need to bed it in to an extent.

Oh, and welcome to the forums mate!!

Do you know where abouts on the engine this filter is? Is it recommended that these should be changed as part of regular servicing? Can you identify the part by any chance in RealOEM?

Mine has now covered 36k miles and I'm wondering if I should look at changing this to avoid any possible future problems?

I'm not sure but is he talking about the part 11 here.
You can see it's location better in this picture.
Please correct if I'm talking about the wrong part, people.

Thanks Jon.

The forum has been a real help. I can only say that please make sure you keep the warranty and maintanence pack up to date!!

I would hate anyone else to go through this. It has caused me and the wife some sleepless nights!! And also the incredible amount the car has lost in value over the past 4 or 5 months is un-real

Thanks very much for this Anzafin!

Can anyone confirm this is indeed the "crankcase breather filter"? - Phantom Mark?

Also, does anyone know how much these are?

No need to thank.
I'm quite sure it is. They replaced mine in last oil change. It wasn't expensive, some 30-40? if I remember right.
