Hi
there is not much diff between early and 2005 3.0d engines ,only on accelerations. I drive 231hp e60 da and 2002 e39 estate 3,0da with over 140k on it without any drama's.
E39 is mainly used for work and does mainly motorway(highway) miles and is less troublesome than 3 year old E60 with 30k.
My advise ? If you do high miles go for diesel and if it is town driving petrol is much better

I couldn't disagree more...

I haven't done it yet, I have just cleaned the flaps last spring. I am going to leave the mechanism to work alone without flaps. I'm going to remove the flap and it's axel and plug the hole with a screw and some caulking.

And no reason to be sorry, just ask as many questions as you like. That's what this forum is for!

Well if I clean them it should be safe for a while then , finally to make a 530d 2004 (218BHP) to the (232BHP) 2007 version can you swap ECU ? intake manifold ? or is it too complex and is chipping better?

These motors are very easy to tune, mapping is better than chipping, if you know some guy that can write out a map for you, that would be really cool...

I can probably also write you out my 320hp map....

I think that would be too much , I am sure the tranny doesnt like that much abuse and the one iam getting is stock and has 83,000KM so i dont think that would be a good idea I wouldnt mine 240BHP though .. and where I live no one would be capable of mapping

I have a october 2004 manufactured 530d manual.

I have just removed the swirl flaps of the intake manifold, since good has said Anzafin, and the engine works fine, if there are changes they are not estimated easily.

Plug the hole with a screw and some caulking is the best way of finishing it. I simply have left the cut axes where they were.

The failure is known by BMW (Diagnostic internal code: 1161243700). The factory has not launched any campaign to communicate the failure and to replace the piece, but the problem exists and the solution is easy

It's a very strong engine, play mp3 cd's and dvd's and is a very beautiful car.

So it's a AUTO ?

I wouldn't put that on the tranny, but the guys here are really satisfied with some cheap ebay chip...

That might work for you...

I have an oct 2004 218 bhp 530dse auto , and have found it an excellent engine, the torque is up there with some of the best at 370 ftlbs and that does show from around 1500 rpm thru to the red line, the only lag is from a standstill, otherwise near no lag, it seemed, but then fitted an SB to find there must have been lag as its even better now, was achieving circa 38-40mpg but that is down a little since fitting the SB. You do knows its a diesal below 1500 rpm. ie. some clatter but have improved that by using fuel additive. Above 1200- 1500rpm really is an excellent power plant.

Hi, to the forum!

We got an '07 530d as a company car and a '04 530d as a private car, so I can point out the differences!

The '07 (with 231 hp) has a much better auto trans. It uses the lock-up function on all gears. The '04 'slips' much more. My '04 has been remapped, so it's much faster than the '07 (the latter is a Touring) and not really comparable.
It has slightly more squeeks/rattles than the '07, but it also has triple the km's on the meter..... There are some minor other differences, which you will only notice if you have both cars to compare head-to-head, for example the closing sound of the doors (the newer one sounds a bit more 'solid').

You will be able to play MP3's on the '04 after a software update. Most '04's should have already had one in the past!

I sure hope mine sounds solid and I sure do hate rattles and squeeks, I am just a little worried the amount of KM the engine has 83,000KM its a late 2004 by the way .. dont know how much of a difference that makes Also I can upgrade the software for it to play mp3's I am sure about that.
