Had a strange experience today, after about a 20 minute high speed motorway trip I pulled off at my exit and noticed a distinct lack of power, almost no acceleration with my foot planted, I continued on and wound down my window to still check the turbo was spinning and couldn't hear it
Took it easy and managed to get home albeit at a much reduced pace.
Thought I'd let things settle before trying it again and it seems to be back to normal although I don't think I can hear the turbo as much as I could before and it still seems sluggish although nowhere near as bad more like 80% of normal power.
Anyone experienced anything like this before? Anyone got an advice on what to check?

We were on vacation and suddenly when i drove the car, i forgot to enter the code for my anti carjacking system since someone opened the door again after i pushed it for the first time.
After about 10 minutes the signal was there again (to warn me i forgot to enter the code), and i tried like 50 times but it couldn't stop (what is really strange, but i think i've entered it too fast after eachother so the system thought it was a wrong code).
So this is what happened after the tries to stop the signal:
I felt the car slowing down (no response on the gas pedal), the i-drive meantioned "warning: unsufficient power" or something like "power loss". And then the most awfull thing of all: a separate horn that was installed within the package off the anti carjacking system. And i can say you: it was TERRIBLY loud .
But no panic: i put off the engine (and still the horn went on and on during i tried this), put it on again and again that warning to put in my code. Pushed it in and it stopped .
So i need to say i love this carjacking system and definitely the robbers wouldn't go that far .

My Ride: e39 525i Touring, will order e61 as soon as I can decide on engine and options...
Could it be the particle filter cleaning itself? How does the cleaning process normally manifest itself?

sorry for you mate, my "older" 530d never had any probs specially not at high speeds no loss of power or speed. Hope with your new turbo it will be solved. I have 5yrs all incl. guarantee all services are free etc. Plan to keep it until the new one comes out, or if F10 1st gen has probs at start than even more

Could be the dealer changing it for changes sake just so that they can make money out of the warranty work.
Have done 56000 miles with no turbo trouble but plenty of problems with the dealers!
