How much have you driven with your car? The MAF sensor will get dirty in time and can give faulty information to the fuel system of the car --> hesitating and possibly jerking. Loose or broken air hoses may produce similar symptoms.

Ahh that old chestnut!! i would check your fuel lines that plug into the injectors, you either have a loose or broken pipe or its a broken or blocked injector, im sorry i cant be more pacific as its hard to diagnose without seeing the car!!
But this has been a problem with a few members cars!!!

Seriously guys there is only 2 main problems that cause hesitation, the first being fuel starvation and the second being air in the fuel system or inlets like the turbo pipes or vac hoses, the first thing you need to do is check all pipes are connected properly, with the engine running listen for any leaks and place your hands over the pipes as you will be able to feel the suction of air!! the second is self evident as you can see the fuel lines and the leaks!! remove the top cover and look at the injectors and lines, they will stand out a mile if leaking!!

Thanks very much for all the input, had it fixed today and it was the MAF sensor

I know this is a "d" thread, but my 535xi went to the stealer yesterday when the 'check engine" light came on, the idrive said the car would run under reduced power, and the engine sputtered and stalled. I tried to restart and the street filled with the smell of gas. I let it sit over night and managed to rumble to the stealer in the morning, where it was diagnosed as needing "replacement fuel injectors". 24,000m on a 2009 bmw and it needs fuel injectors?
