Hi, I've a 2004 530d and it hesitates between 2 and 3rpm but seems to clear 3 to 4rpm, has anyone any ideas?????

You could check the MAF sensor and air hoses in the engine bay.

How much have you driven with your car? The MAF sensor will get dirty in time and can give faulty information to the fuel system of the car --> hesitating and possibly jerking. Loose or broken air hoses may produce similar symptoms.

Ahh that old chestnut!! i would check your fuel lines that plug into the injectors, you either have a loose or broken pipe or its a broken or blocked injector, im sorry i cant be more pacific as its hard to diagnose without seeing the car!!

But this has been a problem with a few members cars!!!

Thanks for the speedy reply, would the car know if it has a broken injector (sorry if thats a thick question) if i get it plugged into a diagnostic?

Yes and no, the car wouldn't know if it is intermittent, but it would if it was a total loss, you or a mechanic would need to physically look at them, to be honest it is more likely the connecting fuel lines bud!

I m having the same problem too, only happens at around 60km/h, no where else

Seriously guys there is only 2 main problems that cause hesitation, the first being fuel starvation and the second being air in the fuel system or inlets like the turbo pipes or vac hoses, the first thing you need to do is check all pipes are connected properly, with the engine running listen for any leaks and place your hands over the pipes as you will be able to feel the suction of air!! the second is self evident as you can see the fuel lines and the leaks!! remove the top cover and look at the injectors and lines, they will stand out a mile if leaking!!

I know this is a "d" thread, but my 535xi went to the stealer yesterday when the 'check engine" light came on, the idrive said the car would run under reduced power, and the engine sputtered and stalled. I tried to restart and the street filled with the smell of gas. I let it sit over night and managed to rumble to the stealer in the morning, where it was diagnosed as needing "replacement fuel injectors". 24,000m on a 2009 bmw and it needs fuel injectors?

Sounds like a defective injector installed from new, at least it will be covered under warranty. I am surprised though 24K miles is nothing let alone its a 2009.
