Mine has a tuningbox, which gives a noticeable difference in torque.
It's not the most sophisticated of methods to tune, but it's pure plug and play and I was able to transfer it over from my 525d without any additional cost.

My Ride: 07 E61 530d M-Sport.
The 530d went from 231bhp to 235bhp when the LCI was released in (mar 07 build date). I'm pretty sure the extra 4bhp is from the efficient dynamics controlling when the alternator is charging and other power/fuel sapping features. Didn't the deisel engine chnage from a cast iron block to an alluminium block when it moved up to 231bhp from 218bhp, is that the difference between M57N2 and the M57.

In the UK it costs about ?3500 more to buy a 530D for very marginal increases in performance.The dealer I bought from said very few people are buying the 530D and even less the 535D.Most popular model is 520D (177 hp) and then the 525D.
The old 525D ie 2.5 litre 6 cylinder is no where near as good as the current 525D eg much poorer fuel economy etc.

It gets even better , as the 530D is only a tuned version of the 525D.They are the same engine ie 6 cylinder 3 litre diesel the only difference is that the output changes from 197bhp to 231 bhp.

Hello to everyone here on this excellent forum,this is my first post so go easy on me!I'm a little confused with what engine I have,when getting car insurance it came up as 218bhp,but having a closer look at the pic's on this forum it look's like the 231bhp one,here's a pic of mine:-
