530 Dash Storage Compartment

Noticed in some pics around the forum of various e60's having a cutout storage compartment in the dash above where the heated seat and DTC buttons are located and below the CD/DVD

Mine is completely solid. Was this a mod?

nope that slot is factory for my car, I assumed everyone had that? Do you have the dvd and cd mounted in the dash that could be why, I only have the cd slot and no navi.

I have the slot too. I think it is standard on cars that do not have NAV. NAV requires the M-ASK (radio head unit)to be replace by the larger CCC and I think it takes up this space.

Yes I have the Nav and this makes perfect sense. Didn't think about the larger head needed for it.

This is correct. No slot = CCC/Navigation and that is the wrong shift knob for that car.

just found it odd when i seen the knob and that shifter plate. I like the shape. I just don't like the lettering.
