I would go for a 530i. The torque suits the car....Too bad the new I6 engines with
valvetronic technology are not on the 5 series yet ( 3.0 258hp - ).

HUD : Don't think the BMW folks at R & D would be happy calling the HUD a toy !!

Once you get used to it - it becames a tool, keeping an eye on speed and nav directions...no doubt it adds to safety in some 'human factors' way...plus it's
cool

regarding the engine again: there is no substitute for bigger engine capacity !!
if it is a balance between that and a HUD - no doubt I would leave the HUD
and go for the 3.0 litre engine...

I own a 525i and i love the confort.

I heard the 525i is the most confort and quiet among all the 5 series. Less powerful yes and without sport has infirior handling among all but overal it is very confortable and quiet

The HUD is hardly a toy. It helps keep my eyes on the road. IF there are any messages they come up too. The 530 looks better. Wheels are better and larger. Go with the 530.

Buy a used 545 on E-Bay for 50-55 grand. Only slightly more cash than that 530 you're looking at, but substantially more car.

Or, alternatively, how about a gently used M5?

Just a thought.
