525xi staggered tires??ok???
Hey guys I wanted to know if anyone else is running wider tires on the back? Everything I've read so far says not to on an xi. BUT I planned on taking my friends tires. She has a '07 or '08 328xi. The tires came off in 2 months of owning it. The were staggered from the dealership. So I was thinking if her AWD came with staggered why couldn't I use the same exact tires.
Any input would help.
Thanks

Its a no no on an Xi - that's why they dont require tyre rotations.... Her AWD shouldn't have had staggered tyres.....

1. YOU ARE MISTAKEN. IT IS POSSIBLE TO SUCCESSFULLY RUN STAGGERED ON Xi (Ask DrLev99 and C'sBimmer!)
2. Problems will start if you have different overall tire diameters front and back and wheels will be turning at different rates, thus messing up the sensors for torque distribution front to back and eventually throwing all kinds of errors related to differential...

You can run staggered on Xi, just have to calculate your overall wheel diameters and make sure that front and back overall diameters are not more than a "few" millimeters difference. I.e. if your fronts are 653mm (for example), your back should not be more than 670mm TOPS!!! You have to try to match the tires as much as possible so that the overall diameters of the front and back wheels are as close to each other as humanly possible. Google "wheel size calculator".
What you're refering to is the differential problems (I think it was the differential) that some members reported after running staggered without matching front and back overall diameters. So two things:

So basically, If I go with 18" up front I need to stay with 18" in back, unless you modified the sidewall tire ratio ie: 40 or 45 series to be almost exact in overall tire/wheel diameter. So my setup with 225/40/18 front, 255/35/18 back will work fine.
Thanks for you help!!!!!!!!
