My Ride: 2007 550i White/Black, SMG, Sports Pkg, Comfort Access, Nav, HUD, Satellite Radio, Anthracite Maple Trim

IMHO i would go with the 530 I agree with most of the people here $4000 is not that much to get more power , xenon headlights, seats and maybe a few other options. Again it depends on what kind of driver you are too.
Another reason to choose the 530i over the 525i is the fact that they get the same gas milage according to BMW. This would mean the the 525i is getting a little strained to maintain speed, thus consuming more gas relatively. On the other hand, the power from the 530i is probably more suited for the size of the car, thus maintaining the car at speed is relative effortless, which would decrease its relative consumption.

My Ride: Titanium Silver 2004 525i, style 116 alloys,
I have the 192hp 525i and I love it, would rate power as very good, but if money wasn't a factor I would have gone for the 530i. I think it's the sweet spot of the gasolene engines for power and fuel consumption.

My Ride: 2005 525i Titanium Silver Metalic and 2003 325xi Jet Black with the Premium Package in both cars.
Yep....I'm in agreement with Markymark. I have no complaints about my 525, it holds up nicely for me. Although I would'nt mind something in between a Lamborgini and Mig 26
Just kidding of course.....I'm good with the 525i

My Ride: On Order as of May 6- 2007 530i Titanium Grey and Grey Leather, with Sport Package, Premium Pkg, Cold Pkg.
2006 Porsche Boxster
I had the same quadry.
With the options that I wanted and some listed in above posts, I found that there was only a $1200 difference in the 525i and 530i.
For the record I ordered the Sport Package, Premium, and Cold Weather.
Cheers

If money wasn't a factor then get the 530i or even the 550i if money is really not an issue since your friend is power hungry, the 530 wouldn't satisfy it like the 550i.
The 525 have the power for everyday commute and some people like a fully loaded 525 with the sports seats or whatever options you can get at your country.
It all goes down to preference and your budget IMO.
