Well, seeing that my loaner doesn't have push button start, I don't think it has the 3.0L.? I think the early '06es still had the 2.5L.

No, if its a 2006 then it DOES have the 3.0L engine. As of March 2005 build 525 and 530s all have the new 3.0L engine. Only Sept 2005 onward did they add the push start, and those are BARELY trickling into the dealers.

So the 525 you drove had 215hp... not toooo shabby...

This a what happens with the US MY mixups.
US MY starts in March and the factory (EU) MY starts in September.

A genuine MY '06 US 525i has a 3.0 litre engine.

I had a 2006 530i as a lonaer last week. The fuel consumption was only ~ 2 mpg better than my 545i.
Power was pretty good, but you are right, the body rolls much more and feels less connected to the road.

I had a 530I 06 as a loaner too. The steering wheel felt much smoother. It did not have sport pkg nor AS.

US MY06 525 has a 3.0L engine , period. (no matter whether it is pre or post Sept production). It is in your user's manual, on your window stiker, printed on your title. Now, any questions?

FullSpeed: Thanks so much for saying that the power was surprising. I just put the deposit down on a 525 Touring model today. I prefered the 530 power but in Taiwan I only had a choice of the 545 or 525 for the touring models and the 545 is twice the price of the 545 in the USA at US$115,000 so I went for the 525 but I am worried that I would be bored and disappointed with the lack of power. My currnet car is a 3.0 X5. Really, really nice to hear your comments seeing that you are a 545 owner as I was torn between the two, although my wife really didn't give me a choice as the 525 was US$30,000 cheaper.

I am definitely looking forward to moving back to the USA in a few years as I could have purchased a new 2006 M5 for LESS THAN the price I paid for my new 525 Touring here in Taiwan. Argh! Don't get me started on the house prices here. As a car fan, I really need to get back to the USA and get a huge custom built mega garage for maybe 6 cars? Maybe more...they are just so cheap in the USA.

Yes, I almost forgot to thank you again for your post FullSpeed! Really made my night, I will definitely sleep better tonight.

Well, no wonder then. I've driven some older body style 525's and 528's and wasn't inspired by them. The new 525i felt more than 189hp to me...and woudn't you know it, it was.

I've heard that BMWs are cheaper here than anywhere else (including Germany). God bless the USA. I might have sold my 545i to you for a little less than $115,000 USD

You can thank "W" for that.

One Euro used to be worth 0,90 $, after W a ? is worth 1,25 $.

God bless US debts and trade deficit.
