I had actually intended to purchase a 525D, but it was a purchase based on childhood ambitions and the sound of the diesel didn't tally with my expectations.

but I loved the silky smooth sound of the petrol engine.

You have waited long and those feelings can not be changed. If You would buy D insted of I and feel bad... Not worth it.

Straight six sounds great. Have You seen "Leathal weapon x" which start with chase of red 5-series?

You spend your time in the car driving it not listening to the idle.
For me performace outweighs noise.

Which Lethal Weapon. I'm trying to remember?

And for me, the noise is all part of the overall package. I can't take the drop off in torque that diesels seem to exhibit. Low end good, top end not so good. That's why they're generally turbocharged.

I test drove the 120d around the Rockingham race track. Was great fun, but I could tell the difference when I got into the 120i. Funnily enough, a 120i is sitting on my drive right now while my E60 is in for SupaGuard.

I agree with Streak. I drove the 2.5i petrol and i found it to be very average. I thought the the engines power was just about enough for the car.

Then i drove the diesel and it was well better than the petrol. the torque is amazing. The diesel is about 15bhp down which is easily gainable via a remap.

The diesel gives me a smile when i drive it which the petrol could not do.

The diesel is more noiser on startup but i dont care. 99% of the time the car will be moving so it will be gone.

Two.

Boot of that car had lots of "kugelrands" and at the end Murtaugh and Riggs drive out from container which hang crane hook and full of money.

Hope you aren't paying for the Supaguard treatment. I had it done on my car for free before delivery and I can promise you it is a complete waste of time. I've tried using the Supaguard refresh products the dealer gave me as well and they are rubbish. BMW's own cleaning products are vastly superior.

Unfortunately, I paid for it. As you said, when I got the car back I wasn't impressed but I guess you live and learn <_<
