525d v 530d uk
#11
I had a 525d for about a week while my 530d was in the dealer, I found a noticable difference between the two, but the 525d is by no way slow, especially when compared to the opposition from Mercedes and audi, however compared to a 530d with a remap its very slow.
Personally I would buy a 530d, spend ?500 and get it Superchipped.
Cheers

I know the 530d is a very good car but its no way worth the extra premium. 2nd hand prices of the 530d are about the same as the 525d which means the 530d has got bad depreciation.
In the E39 i would pay more for the 530d over the 525d but not in the E60. Thats why the 525d is WhatCar best executive car of the year 2005.

[quote name='garehaan' date='Mar 1 2005, 05:19 PM']from 530 to 535 it's not to much price difference either. but from 525 to 535 there's a big gap. You just gotta fix a budget and chose what you're (financially) comfortable with. I've chosen the big engine and dumped navpro, logic 7, comfort seats and xenons. In the end i should have gotten the seats as well but hey, you always need something to wish for.
One very important thing they all have in common: the smoothest running 6 cilinder diesel available!

I don't get this discussion...
It's a normal price for a bigger 0.5L engine. You'll get what you pay for. It's a 0.5L bigger engine with a lot more torque. I think it was worth it, you don't.

Based on your question and the responses so far, I'd say no. It's not worth the extra depreciation.
I've never driven the 525d only the 530i, 530d and 535d. Obviously, the 535d was the most powerful, but I've found myself questioning (based on the amount I actually get to use the power) if I would have been just as happy in a 525d.
I'd test both and see for yourself. Good luck!

I think it depends on what type of driving you do. Not many will need the extra power as 100+mph speeds, so for general use I would say the 525 has it. However if you need to tow (trailer/boat/jetskis) then go for the 530 or 535
