Ive got a 525d M Sport loaner whilst the misses' Cayenne Turbo is broke at the dealer.....again!
Anyway, Ive taken the liberty of nicking it as I do loads of miles and she has my 535d and I had kind of figured that Id get a fair bit more mileage out of the loaner than i do out of my DMS tweaked monster.
Imagine my surprise then over the same 120 mile daily commute in the same traffic conditions the 525d returns only 31mpg as opposed to the 535d's 32!
I know its hardly a scientific analysis but I was hoping for alot more than 31mpg considering how much extra performance the 535 has.
Is this typical or is something the matter with the loan car?
For info, its about 70% motorway/freeway doing around 85-90ish and 30% urban.

Are you both refering to the new 3 litre LCI 525d or the pre-LCI 525d model? If it is an LCI, the next question would be whether the 525d has been run in yet - it typically takes a few thousand miles to get decent MPG out of a new car
Could also be a big
for the quality of the DMS re-map. I've read a lot about improved MPG from remaps.

loaner is a pre-update '05 model without the push button starter and 40k miles on the clock so is certainly run in. Feels tight as a whistle though.
Not so long back I had a 530d loaner and I averaged 35 mpg over the same journey so I was kind of expecting somewhere in the upper 30s out of this one.

The pre-LCI 525d was MUCH more expensive than the 520d in our company car leasing configurator simply because of the addition fuel costs. I'm talking the difference of about 10k Euros worth of extras difference

I have an LCI 525d MSport Auto, just done 3000 miles. On my 80 mile trip into the office this morning which includes country A-roads and motorway I recorded 48MPG on the Journey Computer.
I would say of the times I've checked, if the journey includes mortorway it's always recording at least 44-45MPG.
