From the 545's standpoint, I think some of the quickest times from the road tests in the major US mags were actually done with the steptronic.

Hi,
After a few more riding today, i think that with the Steptronic gearbox, D, DS or Manual is almost the same, as far as acceleration is concerned.
As far as sport driving is concerned, the "problem" is that there is never a direct connection between the engine and wheels in this gearbox. Even in DS or Manual, it "slips" when i accelerate in the middle of a gear range. I would expect it to be "engaged" at least when not changing gear... no?
It is a perfect gearbox for highway driving and very practical for daily traffic.
For sport driving (read: not just acceleration and highway speed): get manual.
That is why high toque engines have it: It softens the power transmition from engine to the ground. And that is not what i want when having fun.
Has anyone with a 535d compared it with a 530d with manual? On a road with curves i know where i would put my money
See you!
